Post Golden Temple Demolition: Sikhs Still Persecuted in India

The Sikh community in India has lodged protest in the strongest terms to India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over symbolic compensation of Rs 2 lac per family affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
They claimed that Indian ruling Congress is intentionally ignoring plight of Sikh families who lost their earning members in Indian Army’s notorious Golden Templet Operation in 1984.

Meanwhile, an official spokesman of the Indian state government disclosed that in terms of rehabilitation package issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, rehabilitation grant at Rs 2 lac per family was to be disbursed to families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
He said; Application along with documents should reach to the respective Deputy Commissioners of the districts in which they were residing for getting the rehabilitation grant up to 31st January, 2010.
No such application would be entertained after 31st January. It is pertinent to mention here that India government has deleted some of the names of Sikhs  who took part against Indian Army in 1984 and families of these individuals would not be given an compensation.
