Gen V K Singh feuling Indian Army Against the Civil Government-Proofs Unvieled

The birth date controversy has been on the simmer for over a year. The Adjutant General's branch which deals with manpower has issued recorded General Singh's date of birth as May 10, 1951 but the Military Secretary's branch that deals with promotions and postings recorded it as May 10, 1950. General Singh insists 1951 is his correct date of birth and calls 1950 a clerical error but, after considering the stark response of Defense Ministry over his age controversy, Indian Army General V K Singh, in order to save his reputation, has come up with another gambit of a compromising formula for the Government with his recent assertions of terming it a battle for honor and not tenure. The suggestion is that he would resign on time if the ministry accepted 1951 as his year of birth. What a joke!!

Well, rumors swirling around the corridors of South Block say General Singh may resign ahead of his retirement date if he feels his battle is lost. But, clearly, the personal crusade has hobbled his options. In 1961, General K.S. Thimayya resigned as Army chief. Thimayya's reasons were never personal. He was dissatisfied with the Army's poor preparation against China and defense minister V.K. Krishna Menon's neglect of adequate equipment. General Thimayya was persuaded to withdraw his resignation by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In the case of the present Army chief, however, things are different. "There is no interest in this case except self-interest," says a senior Army officer.

Whoever wins at the end of this bitter controversy, the outcome will have substantially diminished one of the nation's great institutions. It can lead to what the Army uses to describe a depleted war machine-hollowness.

A DISPUTE THAT SHAMES INDIA

The row over the Army Chief’s age and his decision to go to the Supreme Court to settle the matter shames both the army and the government. The issue has got so important that it has made the front pages of newspapers across the world as an example of how surreal this kind of dispute can become in India.
Neither the Indian Army nor the Government of India have found the time or the resources to come up even with modern uniforms for our troops but it finds the time to waste on a disagreement that could and should have been avoided. When our soldiers were last in a situation of combat during the Kargil war we discovered that not only did they not have proper equipment and clothes to fight at high altitudes there were not even a sufficient number of decent coffins available to bring back the dead. These are the things that should concern both the government and the Army Chief. Instead, since almost the beginning of his tenure all we have talked about is his age.

General V.K. Singh has clarified that his reasons for going to court against the government have more to do with his honour than his tenure. If it is established that he was indeed born on May 10, 1950, and not on that a year later, then he is due to retire in a few weeks. It’s not he carries on his job for another year. So it is hard to believe that tenure does not have anything to do with his determination to fight the government in court but it must be said that had the Defence Minister handled things with discretion and competence it would not have come to such a pass.

This attitude has harmed not just the Army Chief personally but the armed forces in general. The Army Chief should think about his institute and must try to bring harmony and understanding in the army but VK Singh is fighting for his personal interest. He is thinking about his power and wants to extend it as long as he can. He has no interest in the issues of soldiers who are fighting on the borders. He doesn’t want to solve their issues he dame cares about them. As an army chief he has overlooked his organization which has feed him more than 20years. How else do we explain that the Indian Army must be the army in the world that wears uniforms designed for soldiers fighting wars in the middle of the last century? And, with weapons that seem antique compared with the weapons terrorists use when they attack India. The nature of wars has changed completely. We were made brutally aware of this after 26/11, but instead of finding ways to prepare the Indian Army for this new kind of warfare we have spent most of the past year discussing whether the Army Chief is lying about his age.

The Indian Army's administrative wing is under sharp attack from both Defense Minister A.K. Antony as well as the army chief, Gen V.K. Singh, who blamed it for the age row that has pitted the officer against the government leading to civil-military confrontation.

However, this stern stance of V K Singh against his age controversy has resulted in internal rifts in Indian Army and it has been divided into various factions, some of them are in favor of V K Singh and other are against him. Whereas, there are solid proofs that Gen V K Singh is trying to manipulate his age row controversy to let down Defense Ministry in spite of getting an illegitimate extension of one more year.

Indian Army General Caught Red-Handed in Call Tapping of Defense Ministry

Defense minister A K Antony held a one-on-one meeting with Army chief General V K Singh on Wednesday in the backdrop of the phone call tapping of Defense Ministry of India in which he asked Gen V K Singh to commit his offense and stop soliciting Indian Army/ Military Intelligence against defense ministry.

A feud between General V K Singh and Defense ministry was started with the age controversy of Indian General and then series of allegations were imposed from the rivals of both sides and Gen Singh petitioned the case to the apex court regarding this issue.

Adding pain to injury, later V.K Singh accused Defense Ministry of not giving them proper funds for ammunition and reported them with a brief that Indian Army is left with only two days ammunition if waged in war with Pakistan.

Well, the bone of contention is not age controversy of Gen V K Singh neither phone call tapping of Defense Ministry. It's about ethical and moral values of our Army. No body can expect, from any Professional Army to get involved in phone call tapping issue and it depicts that there is no difference between our Military Intelligence and a low level spook.Furthermore, the reprehensible act of Gen V K Singh has also unraveled to International Media that how much the top brass of Indian Army is unethical and immoral.Adding, the treacherous role of Indian Military intelligence also sheds light on their dubious behavior who is creating unrest and rift between Defense Ministry and Indian Army. But why?? That is a big Question Mark.

The repercussions of this controversy are also intimidating as this on-going dispute between Defense Ministry and Indian Army General has also created frustration in Indian Army and they are highly disconcerted with these controversial statements against themselves leading an upheaval in Indian Army.
